I’m a slaker blogger lately. I’m making you wait until Tuesday to update you on my fabulous weekend, how can you stand it? :P You know I’m just teasing, I absolutely adore that some of you care so much that you email or send me a message to tell me to get bloggin’! hehe. It makes me feel special.. short bus special :P
So… Friday night, Guylaine and I went out for dinner at Mexicali Rosa. I am glad to report that I DID stick to my plan: I had a salad and a diet coke! AND, I’m thrilled to report that the salad was not disgusting! In fact, it was absolutely delicious. It was the “Mexicali Rosa Salad with chicken and avocado dressing”, it comes in a shell bowl but I didn’t eat that. And I am thrilled that it was that good. It gives me a great healthy option for downtown. How many sentences can I start with “And” ? Anyway, I didn’t feel deprived at all. I savoured each bite and I can’t wait to go have it again.
After dinner we walked downtown a little to kill a few minutes, then Annick met up with us at the Capitol Theatre. I saw all kinds of people that I hadn’t seen in forever. At some point it hit me that “This is a french show… we’re ALL french speaking people in here! Woah”. Yeah, I’m easily amused like that hehe. The show was pretty darn funny.. although I have to say that I’m way more like a dry/sarcastic humour type of person. I still have a great sense of humour, but give me a hilarious sarcastic comment over a fart/midget/gay/fat/sex joke any day! When the show was over we walked over to St. James Gate… well I can now say that I’ve been to St.James Gate twice… the first time Iw as in there for about 10 seconds. I broke my record, I think we stayed 35 seconds. Uber Crowded. We decided to go to the Navigators instead, but when we walked in front of the Capitol we saw Peter MacLeod signing autographs!! Here’s the proof… I think I look absolutely horrible on this. Steph thinks I was caught mid-laugh and others have said it’s a good picture. Maybe it’s a good thing that I seem to have reverse body dismorphic disorder; I look way better in a mirror, I swear! :P

So we went to Navigators and found out that if you’re the designated driver you get free pop or water. Awesome. I wasn’t really the designated driver, I was just the only one not drinking. But who cares, I got free (diet) pop haha. Hayat met with us and the four of us talked about everything from testicules to periodes, to cleavage to TV hunks. A true girls night out. We attracted a bunch of flirty men. At 1am I went home and that was enough bar scene for me for at least a month hehe.
Saturday we went to blockbuster and rented 2 movies (Enchanged & Dan in Real Life) and 2 games (The Simpsons & Mario Party 8 both for the wii). Fuck Blockbuster is expensive now. We got convinced to renew our member thingy thing, and bought 2 pops and.. popcorn I think ? 55$ !! Frig, we could have bought a game or bought 2 movies for that amount! Don’t even get me started on their ‘no late fee’ fees. While we were watching Dan in Real Life, my aunt Jeanne D’arc, that I hadn’t talked to in at least 2-3 years, calls. I screened and decided to listen to the voice mail first, since we were mid-movie and all. (Okay, you really all know how phone phobic I am.) Well her message was disturbing. Very short and weird voice.. trembling voice.. emotional.. I was TERRIFIED to call her back, I was SURE that someone had died. What if it’s my father and my mother is too upset to call me ? What if my mother is dead and she’s calling me ? What if my uncle Donald, Laurier or my godfather Roland died? OMG… well I learned that nigth that I definitely need to prepare myself for such an eventuality, because I was absolutely freaking out. Every time I’d pick up the phone and start to dial, I’d get teary and hang up. When I went to think and have an IBS attack in the bathroom, the phone rang again, steph picked up, and it was mom. 1 – Phew, she’s not dead 2 – OMG everyone’s calling, someone MUST have died!
It was easier for me to call back mom first. Phew, no one died. My uncle Robert had called from Alberta (where he lives), and he had just gotten off work, and someone had told him that in the Edmonton sun, someone was claiming to be looking for their long lost father, Robert R.! (My uncle’s name, and he has a long lost daughter that he hasn’t seen in 10 years since his wife and him divorced and that she moved away with the kid.) My uncle was crying so hard that no one could understand him apparently. So I called back my aunt J and the reason that she had called me was to ask : Do you get the Edmonton Sun in Moncton ? er.. no hehe. Wrong province. But I am a pretty darn good googler, so I googled and googled until I found the actual letter to the editor in the Edmonton Sun. (4th letter down) Wow! It has to be her, it can’t just be a concidence.. the time frame is right, and that’s her name. Angeline was my grandmother and Alynn (Aline) is my mother’s name.
So I had a great idea… Facebook!!! I searched on Facebook, and lo and behold, I found a group that she had created called “Looking for my father Robert R. etc”. Woah. Insanity… We were SO excited and emotional… my cousin sent me a picture of my uncle with her daughter when she was 7 years old.. and we posted it in the group and said ‘Is this you?’ It’s her… CRAZY!! So they were reunited (by phone.. he’s in Edmonton and she’s in Winnipeg) Sunday night!! I have been in communication with a reporter from the Edmonton Sun who is writing a happy story about this and will send me hard copies in the mail!
It’s so weird.. Saturday afternoon, before I even got those calls and all the insanity started, I was lying in my bed (trying to take a nap) and started thinking about my uncle Robert out of the blue, which I hadn’t seen in like 12 years… so weird..
Anyway.. I feel like I’m leaving out many many details, it’s such a cool happy story.. but it’s 15 minutes to noon and I have to go get ready for my noon power-walk!
